Cardiff City could be without a manager on the sidelines for FA Cup clash with Sheffield Wednesday

Cardiff City could be without manager Erol Bulut for their visit to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup on Saturday. The Bluebirds only travelled to the Steel City two days before Christmas for their league visit, returning with three points after a dramatic comeback, but they will return to Hillsborough this weekend, this time for a ciup date.

Though, the Bluebirds could be without their manager due to a virus Bulut is currently battling. The Turkish boss was absent from Friday’s press conference due to illness, and it’s not clear whether he will be on the coach headed to the Steel City. Then again, the late kick-off on Saturday (5.30pm) will certainly help his case.

Bulut’s assistant Nicolaos Karydas took the press conference on Friday and said: “Erol is quite ill. I don’t know how bad, as I am not a doctor I am forwarding his greetings and we hope that he will be soon with us again. That’s the only information I can give you. But Erol is a giant and he has surprised me many times. Maybe this time he will be well enough to come with us.”

Bulut has been a motivating figure on the sideline for the Bluebirds this season, and they will hope to have him on the sidelines at Hillsborough. Although, he won’t want to risk introducing the virus into his changing room given the important stretch of league fixtures that await after this cup clash, starting with a home clash against promotion contenders Leeds United.
