Wales boss Robert Page responds to Erol Bulut’s Aaron Ramsey concerns

Wales boss Rob Page has responded to concerns from Erol Bulut over the selection of Aaron Ramsey for the national team. The midfielder has missed much of the season through injury, but he did return during the South Wales derby following his most recent setback.

Cardiff thought they had lost Ramsey for another couple of months after he returned briefly before suffering another injury in February. But the midfielder returned ahead of schedule, and his return for the derby prompted Wales boss Page to call up the veteran ahead of Thursday night’s Euro 2024 qualifying playoff with Finland and – potentially – a playoff final if the Dragons are successful in that first game.

On the back of the call-up, City boss Bulut expressed concern over Ramsey being thrust into action so soon after his return, but Wales boss Page says the communication has been regular between club and country.

“I don’t know what all the fuss is about to be honest,” said Page. “We just want the player fit, both Cardiff and ourselves. We are in constant communication. I trust my medical team. I don’t need to have a conversation with the [Cardiff] manager.

“I know their medical team. Their head of medical was my physio when I was manager at Port Vale. Their club doctor is our Under-21s’ doctor. There has never been a better relationship.”

Speaking about his links to the Cardiff medical team, Page added: “If there is a breakdown in communication, it’s between their manager and their medical team.

“There has been no problem. The diagnosis of his initial problem was nowhere near as bad as what they first said. So if I have got an opportunity to get Aaron into the squad I am going to take it. He is not match-fit, of course he is not, but he can have an impact. Even in training, he can have an impact. For me, it’s worked. I trust my medical team, they have got him fit and he’s in the squad.”
