Neil Warnock names five key people behind Cardiff City success

Former Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has opened up on his success at the club and the key men behind it. Warnock guided the Bluebirds to safety in his opening months and then an unlikely promotion the following season, subsequently coming close to keeping them in the Premier League, though relegation followed.

Warnock is one of most popular City managers of recent years having been one of the few to not only deliver success but to grab the bull by the horns, so to speak. The veteran boss commanded respect from ownership and dictated terms during his spell, something Cardiff fans haven’t seen from a run of younger managers over recent years.

Having recently left Aberdeen following a temporary stint, Warnock spoke about his Cardiff spell on the No Tippy Tappy Podcast. He said: “I couldn’t have got success at Cardiff without Mehmet Dalman. He was my chairman and he was absolutely brilliant. We played Bristol City in my first game on television. I went in and I signed Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett, as always. Mehmet was great.

“I had some good players there. The players you want in the trenches. Gunnarsson, who was a wonderful midfielder. Limited, but what a player. Morrison, I made him my captain. Some fo the fans weren’t happy, but he never let me down. They were salt of the earth players and to get promotion was them was absolutely unbelievable. The celebrations, around the city on the open top bus. It’s a great club. I have never hear out like the Welsh people singing. I had great times at Cardiff.”
