Cardiff City man gets senior Wales call-up ahead of playoff final

Cardiff City star Rubin Colwill has been promoted to the Wales senior squad after scoring for the under-21s earlier this week. Colwill will be part of the Wales squad vying to secure a place at Euro 2024 when they face Poland on Tuesday night at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Wales defeated Finland 4-1 earlier this week to progress to the all-or-nothing playoff final. Meanwhile, Colwill was busy scoring for the under-21s in their Euro 2025 Under-21 Championship qualifiers win over Lithuania in Newport.

That was a game Wales boss Rob Page was present for, and with the under-21s training next to the senior squad, the former under-21s boss, Page, has seen enough of Colwill to promote him to the first team ahead of Tuesday.

“He will be back with the senior squad,” said current U21s boss Matthew Jones. “The alignment, I feel, has never been better between the two sides, because of the relationships with each other, we train with each other.

“It’s all been done deliberately so [Wales senior manager] Rob Page can cast his eyes and see when he needs to make a decision. It’s working really well, we have to trust each other, there has to be a plan in place to manage them.”

Colwill has eight senior caps to this point, a tally he will hope to add to next week, while he has nine under-21s appearances.
